The conference rotates host cities each year and this year will be held in Knoxville. Invitations have been emailed to all SIS alumni with a Tennessee mailing address and a valid email address. Tenopir Gives Keynote at BOBCATSSS

Carol TenopirChancellor's Professor Carol Tenopir gave a keynote address at the BOBCATSSS 2017 conference in Tempere, Finland on January 25, 2017. Her talk was titled, "Researchers need information too! How information improves the quality of worklife." Tenopir is currently in Tempere working with colleagues at the Hanken School of Economics while on a Fulbright-Nokia Distinguished Chair in Information and Communications Technologies assignment for the academic year.

Reading Expert: Books for Kids of All Ages to Celebrate Black History Month

Kelly Interviewed by WBIR About Wildfire Kids Effort

Mini RockSIS Director Diane Kelly was interviewed by local TV station WBIR-TV about the School's efforts to collect new books for the Sevier County Public Library system's Wildfire Kids iniative. As reported in a previous story, Kelly is leading the campus effort to ensure the children impacted by the November wildfires in the Smokies have plenty of books to replace the ones the children lost. UT School of Information Sciences to Help Replace Books for Kids Impacted by Wildfires

Wildfire KidsThe University of Tennessee, Knoxville, School of Information Sciences will be collecting books for children in Sevier County who lost their possessions in the recent wildfires. 

In conjunction with an initiative of the Sevier County Public Library, SIS will collect new books for children and teens in a collection container at its office in Suite 451 of the Communications Building, 1345 Circle Park Drive. Books should be delivered to the campus office no later than Friday, Feb. 3. 

SIS Alum Casey Fox ('15) Achieves 40 Under 40

Casey FoxCasey Fox ('14), library fund development manager for the Knox County Public Library system has helped raise more than $1 million through grants, sponsorships and capital campaigns to support programs and events. Her creative ideas and energetic achievements earned her a spot on the 2017 Greater Knoxville Business Journal's 40 Under 40 list. While a student at SIS, Fox was a recipient of the ALA Bound to Stay Bound Scholarship, the UT SIS Jane Moulton Ray Scholarship and a cohort on the Information Technology for Rural Librarians IMLS grant program.

UT iSchool Granted Continuing Accreditation by ALA

ALA logoThe University of Tennessee’s School of Information Sciences is pleased to announce that the American Library Association’s (ALA) Committee on Accreditation has granted continued accreditation status to its Master of Science in Information Sciences (MSIS) program. The next comprehensive review of the program is scheduled for spring 2023.

Kelly is New Director of School of Information Sciences

Diane KellyDiane Kelly, an internationally known information sciences scholar, is the new director of the University of Tennessee School of Information Sciences (SIS). She begins on August 8.

Kelly comes from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a professor in the School of Information and Library Science. Her research and teaching interests focus on interactive information search and retrieval, information search behavior, and research methods.
