Student Organizations

Joining and participating in student chapters of national organizations is an excellent way of obtaining leadership skills, learning about the organizations, and staying apprised of trends in the field. Student member dues for national professional associations vary, but are inexpensive. Membership in at least one national organization is highly recommended.

The SIS Student Association facilitates and encourages communication between the faculty and students and promotes student social, educational, and professional interests. An executive board composed of elected officers and committee chairpersons plans and coordinates programs during the academic year. All enrolled students are eligible for membership.

The following organizations are represented at SIS:

Some student organization meetings are recorded, especially when there is a special speaker.  Video playback is available for current SIS students on the UTK-SIS Student Organizations video channel. Login with UT Netid is required for viewing.

Current Faculty Advisors to the student organizations are listed on the SIS Faculty Committee Assignment page.

The Student Coordinating Council (SCC) serves as the government for the SIS student body, promotes and strengthens a spirit of community within SIS, and serves as a link between the SIS administration and its students.
